The Central Laboratory is located at 10800 Bay Area Boulevard in Pasadena, Texas 77507-1796 at the Bayport/Central Laboratory Site. This GCA facility serves both Industrial and Municipal Division facilities in the Authority. Central Lab also provides analytical services to area industries and municipalities upon request. Central Laboratory is a service group within the GCA family. It provides high quality data for regulatory reporting and process control for operating plants both the Industrial and Municipal sides of the waste management program.
In 1991, testing requirements from the regulatory communities reached the point where equipment costs and technical expertise demanded consolidation of services within GCA. Central Laboratory was formed by the centralization of 3 facility site laboratories – personnel and equipment. Specialized equipment was added, and personnel trained to gain efficiency and to routinely achieve reliable test data within GCA.
Currently the laboratory is supported by 32 personnel in space approximating 8,500 ft2. The lab is scheduled to be upgraded in 2001 and will occupy laboratory and laboratory warehouse of approximately 21,000 ft2.
Available testing includes routine wet methods such as Total Suspended Solids (TSS), and Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) to the more highly technical procedures such as Elemental Analyses or Organic Analyses.
